Perridge Farm
"Perridge Farm is one of the loveliest places in England - the French
would describe it as a 'terroir superb' - a place ideally suited to its
purpose - that of producing Britain’s finest organic beef."
- The Times
Set across 450 acres of organic grassland, our family farm spans over 8 decades of management. Each of the small 90 fields are surrounded by ancient dense hedgerow,
enhancing the biodiversity encouraged by our organic farming methods creating havens for wildlife and fauna. Cattle roam and graze the herb rich pastures; cuts of grass are taken periodically from early spring until autumn to ensile as winter feed. Spring, summer, autumn and winter seasons pass leisurely from one to the other, and our farm works in harmony with nature.
With the continued interest in grass fed organic beef and milk produced from grass fed cows, Brown Cow Organics have always maintained integrity of farming practise to ensure that not only are all our animals grass fed, but importantly that the soil is analysed for its physical and chemical imbalance and any such defects addressed with organic inputs. We aim for a balance of minerals, trace elements and bacterial activity (the good stuff).
With the continued interest in grass-fed organic beef and milk produced from grass-fed cows, Brown Cow Organics have always maintained the integrity of regenerative farming practises. We have been analysing our soil for many years the analysis shows any physical or chemical imbalances, any such defects are addressed with organic inputs. We aim for a balance of minerals, trace elements and bacterial activity (the good stuff).
The grass grown from the soil is then analysed for its full nutritional content to ensure that the grass that our animals eat is as good as it should be. We did this for many years before realising we had not analysed the actual meat and milk produced from this pioneering approach to farming. So, we sent samples to a world-renowned laboratory to analyse our produce and to compare it directly to other leading brands. The results of which launched the brand of Brown Cow Organics.
The dairy herd are milked only once a day, being brought in from their pasture by our loyal dog Alfie. The milking takes place first thing in the morning so the cows can go out to grass, maximising their day of grazing and lying around enjoying the view.
As the herd are not pushed beyond their natural ability to produce milk the benefits are to all; long healthy living cows with little need for inputs to keep them that way. For a cow to produce milk she has to give birth each year; since the early days of our farming generations these baby claves are reared to full maturity either into the herd or as beef.

The herd are not pushed beyond their natural ability to produce milk which benefits us all; happy cows living long, healthy lives with little need of intervention from us.
For a cow to produce milk she has to give birth each year, we separate the cow and calf after 24 hours.
From our experience, we have found that the longer the cow and calf stay together the more distressing it becomes for both the cow and calf when they are separated.
Each morning when the cows leave the parlour they walk past the calves and there is no distress from either cow or calf. Since we began farming, these baby calves are reared to full maturity either into the dairy herd or as beef.
